On the 14th February 2023, Liss Parish Council in partnership with the Tree Council planted fruit trees on a spare piece of land on Mill Road. Over the last few years the trees have grown and with that they have needed pruning, feeding and watering. This year the Mill Road Orchard is thriving in its 3rd year. Sadly, we lost one of the cherry trees during the winter, but we have replaced the tree and it is being nurtured offsite in readiness to plant in the autumn. In February the hard fruit trees (pear, apple) had their prune and the whole orchard had its first fertiliser feed of the year. The trees had a splendid display of blossom in April and the fruits are already visible. Our resident orchard champions, Peter Barwick and Karen Tordoff continue to monitor for aphid and mildew damage and water the trees with the help of the parish groundsmen.
